As Indians, we have a strong feeling of nationalism and patriotism for our country. We are proud of our country India because of its rich history of culture and heritage and of course the incredible struggle for the Independence, which is quite evident from the way we people celebrate the victory of India at international level be it be in sports, politics, army or even movies. This strong patriotic feeling of the Indians is also cherished by some of the movies which indulge strong feelings of nationalism. In fact, year after year Bollywood cinema, have produced masterpiece patriotic movies which have made the people cry, laugh and indulge in immense pride.

1.Border, (1997) –
Border released in 1997 is a cult patriotic movie based on the 1971 India Pakistan War. The film was directed by JP Dutta, a man who is famous for making patriotic war based movies and had multiple star casts including the likes of Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff and many more. The movie made every audience cry with its song “Sandese Aate Hai” which depicted the emotional side of Indian soldiers and how they selflessly fight with the enemy of Indian country. The movie was the biggest blockbuster of 1997 and also won 3 national awards. Till today, Border is regarded one of the best patriotic movies ever made.
2.Lagaan, (2001) –
Directed by one of the most eminent directors of Bollywood Industry Ashutosh Gowarikar, Lagaan was released in 2001 and was based during the British era. The Cruel English people imposed a heavy tax (Lagaan) on the poor Indian villagers for a barren land and the Indian villagers led by Aamir Khan had to fight against the British for the taxation by playing and winning a cricket match, which at those times Indian were not known to play. The mixture of Cricket and pre-independence struggle accompanied by excellent direction and a great display of acting by Aamir Khan and Co makes Lagaan one of the hot favorite patriotic movies among the Indians.
3.Swades- We the People, (2004) –
Another masterpiece by Ashutosh Gowarikar Swades, released in 2004 was a fictional story based on the real life of Aravinda Pillalamarri and Ravi Kuchimanchi, a couple who returned to India to develop the pedal power generation to light up remote village schools. The movie with the best patriotic background score by the musical maestro A.R Rahman and the brilliant display of the emotions which goes through a person who lives outside of his country by Shah Rukh Khan is one of the best patriotic movies ever made. However, surprisingly the movie did not do well at Box Office, which till today remains a sad story for the Bollywood Cinema.
4.Chak De India (2007) –
Sports and Patriotism in India go in hand to hand. On the top of that, if a good movie is made on sports and patriotic feelings, it is going to be a sure shot blockbuster. Same was the case of Chak De India. Based on the theme of Indian Hockey and their journey from the underdogs to World Cup Champions under the coach ship of the famous character Kabir Khan played by Shah Rukh Khan, Chak De India will always have a special place in the heart of every patriotic Indian audience.
5.Rang De Basanti, (2006) –
A splendid movie with themes of patriotism, youth, revenge, and corruption, Rang De Basanti was the coming of the age patriotic theme movie directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra with Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan and Soha Ali Khan in pivotal roles. The movie touched the heart of the youths and is one of the best patriotic movies bollywood ever made in the history of Indian Cinema.
