Upcoming Movie Kesari
We cannot get enough of the first poster of Kesari. Akshay Kumar in his very unconventional warlord avatar has picked our curiosity. If you too are left tickling your head, stay tuned to find out the movie is all about.
Sharing the first look, Akshay tweeted, “Feeling nothing but immense pride and gratitude while sharing this. Beginning my 2018 with #KESARI, my most ambitious film and a lot of passion. Need your best wishes as always @dharmamovies @iAmAzure @SinghAnurag79.” The intense first look sees Akshay donning long beard and mustache in which he is wearing a khaki uniform and yellow turban which sure creates a lot of excitement about his character in the film. Ferocious is the word.
Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar’s production Kesari, is perhaps the biggest Dharma Productions has ever made. Akshay Kumar is also co-producing the movie along with Karan Johar. The movie is based on the famous Battle of Saragarhi and is directed by Anurag Singh.
Battle of Saragarhi?
In September 1897, over 10,000 Afghan tribesmen of the Orakzai and Afridi tribe attacked Saragarhi, North Western Frontier Province (NWFP). The Sikh regiment, under the leadership of Havildar Ishar Singh, knew that they were outnumbered but they still held their ground and fought for several hours.
But before diving right into the Akshay Kumar upcoming movie kesari , here are five things you really need to know about the epic  battle:
Not a Fiction!!!
Battle of Saragarhi is considered one of the greatest battles in the history of war. 21 Sikhs taking on an army of 1000’s valiantly is something you will have never heard of!!
The backdrop...
On September 12, 1897, in Saragarhi in Tirah region of North-West Frontier Province, (now in Pakistan) 21 Sikhs all part of the British India regiment, stood in unison,  protecting the forts of Lockhart and Gulistan on the border areas of Afghanistan. These forts were always under the frequent attacks of Afghans.
The Afghans attack
On that fateful day, 10,000’s of Afghan soldiers attacked Saragarhi.  Sardar Gurmukh Singh called the British commander about the attack and asked him to send reinforcements; however, the commander was unable to send an army at such a short notice and asked them to retreat.
And their war cry fills the air...
However, the battalion didn’t retreat, instead, it defended its post against the Afghan soldiers and even managed to successfully thwart two attacks from the enemies.
Their war cry was “Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal”.
The fearless warrior
Gurmukh Singh himself killed around 20 Afghans and he was one of the last men to die. However, the final attack was too powerful for them, as all of them perished and their post was destroyed. But they had bought enough time for the British to bring in reinforcements and destroy the enemies.
The Brave hearts
None of them survived to tell the tale.
All the perished soldiers were posthumously awarded the Indian Order of Merit, the highest gallantry award of that time. An epic poem Khalsa Bahadur was also composed in their memory, while their feats were taught in textbooks in Punjab. Saragarhi Day, is a Sikh military commemoration day celebrated on 12 September every year to commemorate The Battle of Saragarhi.
The warriors of night died but their fearless act was etched in the sands of time.Forever.
While sharing the picture, the actor captioned it saying, "Feeling nothing but immense pride and gratitude while sharing this. Beginning my 2018 with #KESARI, my most ambitious film and a lot of passion. Need your best wishes as always “ Our best wishes are always with you Akki. Parineeti Chopra would be playing opposite Akshay in the movie.

Kesari movie release date is scheduled for Holi 2019. So, who’s eager to watch this epic event unfold on the big screen?
